Ok, before I write anything else. I want to clarify that this post is not meant to be a morale booster post. However, this post is meant to emphasize the importance of learning and creating multiple streams of income in generating your wealth.
What prompted me to write this post was because I’m feeling a bit dull recently due to the amount of work (as an employee) that has taken up a relatively huge chunk of my time and of course, my energy. I haven’t been able to catch up on my stocks analysis, my reading and learning or even sit back, relax and enjoy a game or two.
Which brings me to the point about working or being an employee. Most of us worked hard at being an employee our whole life, me inclusive. And when a recession hit, we wonder how to survive and wonder ‘why me?’ or ‘why is heaven so unfair?’ or ‘why can’t I have it easy like some other people?’. Personally, I guess the biggest mistake about working is, when we treat it as the only stream of income in our life. And we center our life and our income stream around work. And over time, we become afraid to lose this only source of income.
This post is not to tell you to quit your job. But this post is to highlight that a job is not everything. It is not the whole of your life because there are always other humans more important that matters to us. And there’s always many other ways to earn more money. Working is just one method. I won’t be touching on the other methods in this post. But do feel free to read this blog to start gaining exposure bit by bit. But what you need to takeaway from this post is that, being an employee is just one stream of income and it’s among the slowest way (as it is the most basic method) to make more money among many methods available. And many people fell into the rat race trap because they grew too comfortable being an employee.
Having said so much, is it bad an employee? There is no definite answer to this. It largely depends on your expectations, the work environment you are in and suitability to an individual lifestyle. However, if you more often than not feels frustrated at work or demoralised, do not simply just bury your head and hope that the feeling will go away with time. Most likely, it is an indication that your heart or head is telling you something is not working out right. Do something about it, change something, learn something. Open up more choices for yourself. So that the next time you feel unhappy with your work, you won’t be made to stick with it simply because it is your only option. Otherwise, carrying on with what has not been working right for you all this while, you’ll never ever be happy.
