But if you did receive a special invitation that encourages you to spend at least $500 using your OCBC Plus! Visa cards, you’ll receive 500 additional Linkpoints if you do spend at least $500 from 1 August 2012 to 31 August 2012.
I took a closer look at what this deal mean.
Let’s say for example, you normally spend $500 at NTUC using OCBC Plus! Visa cards in a a month. (You may refer to my previous posts on the advantages of using OCBC Plus! Visa cards.) For a $500 spend, you can get 1000 Linkpoints normally (equivalent to a 1.30% rebate). With this special invitation, now you will earn 500 more Linkpoints, making it a total of 1500 Linkpoints for the same $500 spend, which pushes up the equivalent rebate to 2%).
This is good if you usually uses OCBC Plus! Visa cards or often buys NTUC house brands but not so good if you have other card alternatives which may earn you better discounts or rebates more than 2%.
But let’s say you are going to spend $500 on non grocery related, non transport related, non bills related, then this is worth looking.
For example, if you intend to book for a short trip this month, you may want to consider using this card. Why? Cards usually don’t give additional incentives for such spend. So it will likely be a points accumulation. In such cases, the equivalent rewards usually hover about 0.5%). I don’t really recommend using OCBC Plus! Visa card for non grocery related, non transport related spending usually because of the pretty low rebates percentage of about 0.3%. But if you take advantage of this special invitation and spend $500 in this month, then you could push up this percentage up to about 0.88%.
