Do you take Comfort/City cabs?

From 1 October 2012 to 31 October 2012, for DBS/POSB MasterCard PayPass Credit Cardmembers, enjoy an exclusive 10% cash rebate on Comfort / CityCab taxi fares when you pay your fares using MasterCard PayPass™. The cash rebate will be awarded before 31 January 2013.

This promotion is applicable for customers who are holding on to the POSB Everyday Card, DBS Woman’s Platinum and World Card, and DBS One.Tap Cardmembers.

And when you do tap and pay using MasterCard PayPass™, you could also at the same time send in a lucky draw registration via SMS to win $500 worth of Cold Storage vouchers. 10 monthly prizes to be given away until December 2012.

Do note that there is a 10% administrative charge for using credit cards to pay for your cab fare. I don’t usually recommend paying your cab fare with a credit card because of this exorbitant and unnecessary expenses unless you (or your company) don’t mind paying for it. But with this current 10% cash rebate promotion, it still looks like we can get a 1% or slightly lesser rebate benefit.

If you are still uncomfortable, then skip this promotion.

Always remember, credit is a double-edged sword. Used wisely, it’ll bring us benefits, however the wrong use can land us into trouble. Educate yourself wisely.

And if you happen to find yourself in a cashless situation in a cab and there is no worthwhile credit card promotion like this, then choose to pay by NETS instead. There is still an administrative charge of 30 cents but still way lesser than a 10% credit card administrative charge.

Unless you had hoped on and off a taxi immediately, then maybe your fare would likely be less than $3 to warrant the use of credit card payment in this case instead but I doubt such a scenario is likely to happen. :p

And if you have been paying your cab fare with a credit card and bearing the credit card administrative charges so far, my suggestion is to kill this habit immediately.
